It was fantastic to see such a strong Wicking presence at this year’s Australian Dementia Research Forum (ADRF), held in Sydney.

A real highlight was Distinguished Professor Emeritus James Vickers receiving the Australian Dementia Network Lifetime Achievement Award - a well-deserved recognition of his incredible contribution to dementia research.

Professor Vickers also opened an inspiring session led by Professor Jane Alty on “The New Digital Path to Brain Health.” Her work is exploring how tools like TAS Test, TapTalk and the ISLAND Project can use digital biomarkers to detect the very early stages of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s - and help people take action to reduce their risk. It’s exciting to see how this approach could support brain health at scale.

Some other ISLAND-related projects were also represented, these included:

  • Dr Eddy Roccati presented on the INSIGHT study
  • Dr Hannah Fair presented on the ISLAND Network study
  • Dr Sauro Salomoni and Dr Simon Weber presented work on the BRAIN (BRinging AI into Neurology) project
  • Kaylee Rudd shared her work from the ISLAND Clinic

Together, these contributions highlight the depth of research happening across Wicking - and the important role ISLAND participants play in making it all possible.
