Advancing neurological assessments with the BRAIN project

A new project focusing on developing innovative tools for early detection of Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease will soon be underway, funded by a $1 million NHMRC research grant.

Advancing neurological assessments with the BRAIN project

The BRAIN Project, short for BRinging Artificial Intelligence into Neurological Assessments, uses a multimodal testing approach that combines gait assessment, face analysis, and eye tracking technology. By leveraging AI and machine learning algorithms, the project aims to identify key features—like eye movement, blink rate, subtle expression changes, or walking patterns—that can serve as early biomarkers for these conditions.

The project is taking place in the Human Intelligent Movement Analysis Centre (HIMAC) in Hobart and will be commencing data collection in February. Through the development of novel protocols and remote assessment applications, this work has the potential to improve early detection worldwide.
