Risk factors and demographics around Tasmania

Based on feedback from our Community Advisory Group, and at our last ISLAND in-person seminar series, we are excited to share with you an interactive tool that allows us to see the improvements we have made together over time.

Risk factors and demographics around Tasmania

Together with ISLAND data custodians (Tim Saunders and Alex Kitsos), we have designed an online interactive tool that showcases how ISLAND participant’s Dementia Risk Profile (DRP) is improving over time. This tool incorporates real-world data from the ISLAND’s inception in October 2019, right up until our recent survey data from 2024. It represents how different geographic areas (Local Government Area/Statistical Area) have different DRP risks, and how participating in ISLAND has resulted in improvements across the state of Tasmania.

The best part about this is that it’s all completely interactive! With your cursor, you can click what DRP risk factor you are interested in, for example Alcohol or BMI, then slide across the Years, from 2019 to 2024, to see how the prevalence of these factors is changing over time. You will be able to see participant demographics for different areas, such as age and education level, but without too much information in order to be identifiable.

We hope you enjoy seeing how widespread and diverse ISLAND participants are. Thank you for contributing to ISLAND to make things like this possible. We’re so glad we can see improvements like this across Tasmania, and hope to see more in years to come.
