ISLAND research featured in ABC news

We’re excited to share that the ISLAND Project and one of our recent research papers have been featured in the media, with coverage on national ABC News, online, social media and on ABC Radio. This is a fantastic recognition of the important work being done to better understand brain health and dementia prevention.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the study, and a special thank you to Colleen, a valued member of the ISLAND Community Advisory Group, for her contribution to the story.

The featured paper explored the relationship between physical activity and a blood biomarker called GFAP, which is associated with brain inflammation and damage. The findings revealed that individuals who reported higher levels of physical activity, particularly vigorous exercise, had lower levels of GFAP. This suggests that physical activity may help reduce the risk of neurodegeneration, especially in people with a lower genetic risk.
