ISLAND Update - December 2024

The ISLAND Project team wish everyone a safe and happy holiday period.

Throughout 2024 we have focused our engagement efforts on spreading the message of dementia prevention within the community and have met many of you along the way. Please keep these conversations going. Together we can reduce stigma and increase knowledge around dementia risk in our community.

2024 surveys

We had 2,789 people complete the October surveys this year. Thanks to each and every one of you! Also, congratulations to the Coles Myer voucher winners. We have contacted all winners directly and your vouchers have been mailed to you, just in time for Christmas.

A number of you also completed your 5th survey in a row and therefore qualified for ISLAND Gold. As a thank you, we have offered you an enamel ISLAND pin (pictured). We hope you wear your pin with pride and would love to see pictures of them out in the community.

ISLAND Campus 2020 to now:

We recently had our initial results from ISLAND Campus published! Our open access paper accessible here. Thank you all the participants who took part in this initiative, and to the 1,600 people that expressed an interest in Campus next year.

ISLAND Campus 2025: We now have two lists of courses that will be fee-waived next year. One list will have a limit on enrolment numbers, and another list of courses that are not limited. If you expressed an interest in the Campus fee-waiver in the Annual surveys, then please consider these lists of courses.

In mid January we will email eligible members with the next steps for enrolment.

In mid January we will email eligible members with the with next steps for enrolment. Please be aware that the courses with limited places will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, so you will want to know what course you are interested in before mid January. All of the courses and further information is available here in the Campus FAQ section.

Thanks to the ISLAND community advisory group

Our new community advisory group is a fantastic addition, helping guide our research and engagement efforts. We would like to give a special thanks to them for their work throughout the year.

End of year break

This year, we are taking some time off for the holidays so we will be slower to respond to the ISLAND email inbox between Thursday 19th December and Monday 6th January.
